Summary of the Course outlines / Sammanfattning av kursbeskrivningar

Here you can find a summary of the Course outlines of all the courses offered here at the IB Diploma programme Katedralskolan Skara. The first year students (Pre-DP) and their parents will get more information about the available DP courses and the layout of the DP at the end of the first semester of the Pre-DP.

Här hittar du en sammanfattning av Course outlines (kursbeskrivningar) av samtliga kurser vi erbjuder på IB Diploma Programme här på Katedralskolan Skara. Eleverna i år 1 (Pre-DP) och deras föräldrar får mer information om kurserna och programmets sammansättning i slutet av första terminen på Pre-DP.

Group 1 – Studies in language and literature (Språk)

Mother tongue language, studied as a literature course. We offer Swedish A Literature, English A Language and literature and Self-taught A Literature (school supported self studies).

Modersmål, studeras som en litteraturkurs. Vi erbjuder Swedish A Literature, English A Language and literature and Self-taught A Literature (school supported self studies).

Group 2 – Language acquisition/ Andraspråk

A second language learnt at least three years before. We offer English B, French B, German B, Spanish B and Swedish B.

Students who take Swedish B also take the Swedish national courses in SVA (Swedish as a second language) as a complement. This could give legiability to study at Swedish unversities.

Ett andra språk som du läst minst tre år tidigare. Vi erbjuder English B, French B, German B, Spanish B and Swedish B.

Elever som läser Swedish B läser även SVA (Svenska som andraspråk) som komplement. Detta kan ge behörighet att läsa på svenska universitet.

Group 3 – Individuals and Societies (SO-ämnen)

Subjects within individuals and societies. We offer History and Psychology.

Samhällsorienterade ämnen. Vi erbjuder History (historia) och Psychology (psykologi).

Group 4 – Sciences (NO-ämnen)

Subjects within the sciences. We offer Biology, Chemistry and Physics (two of the courses start depending on the number of applicants).

Naturvetenskapliga ämnen. Vi erbjuder Biology (biologi), Chemistry (kemi) och Physics (fysik) (två av ämnena startar beroende på antal sökande).

Group 5 – Mathematics

We offer two different routes in Mathematics, Mathematical Application and Mathematical Analysis. Standard level only.

Vi erbjuder två olika kurser I matematik, Mathematical Application och Mathematical Analysis. Endast standard level.

Group 6 – The Arts (Estetiska ämnen)

We offer no Group 6 courses at the moment. The students choose another subject from group 1 – 4 as the 6th subject.

Vi erbjuder inget estetiskt ämne i dagsläget. Eleverna väljer ett extra ämne från grupp 1 – 4 som sitt sjätte ämne.

The Core (IBs kärna)

In the Core there are three compulsory subjects: Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity & Service (CAS) and the Extended Essay (EE) in one subject.

TOK is a taught course with subject hours in the schedule.

CAS is an extra curriculum course that is performed outside of school hours (not scheduled) and it is supervised by the CAS Coordinator.

The EE is supervised by a subject teacher and partly scheduled as a few concentration days, but most of the writing process is done outside of schedule.

I kärnan ingår tre obligatoriska ämnen: TOK (kunskapsteori), CAS (kreativitet, aktivitet & service) och EE (en akademisk uppsats i valfritt ämne).

TOK är en lärarledd kurs som är schemalagd.

CAS är aktiviteter som görs utanför skoltid, så den är inte lärarledd, men den handleds och kontrolleras av en CAS Coordinator.

EE handleds av en ämneslärare och är delvis schemalagd som koncentrationsdagar, men största delen av skrivprocessen görs utanför skoltid.
